STEAM

Through STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Mathematics), children engage creatively in real world problems, applying their understanding of each discipline in integrated and innovative ways. It is through STEAM that we aim to provide students with opportunities to develop the skills they need to compete and adapt in a job market that is constantly evolving.

'SPARC' Your Imagination

At Willetton Primary School, teachers plan STEAM units of work using the 'SPARC' model. 'SPARC' stands for:

S: Set the Scene

In this phase, students identify the problem they wish to solve and list what they already know about the topic. From the middle primary onwards, students also identify what they wish to learn about the topic.

P: Prepare

In this phase, research the topic and develop a first design for their project using a labelled diagram. Students identify the materials required to complete the project and where they will source these from.

A: Act

In this phase, students produce a prototype of their design.

R: Review & Revise

In this phase, students test their prototype and evaluate its success against the original problem. Students produce . second design making any necessary adjustments.

C: Communicate

In this phase, students share their final designs with others. They outline what they have learnt during the project and how their initial design has changed and why.
